Birdability: Birding Your Way

Event Description

Discover many ways to enjoy birding during Birdability Week this September! Join Dane County Parks, Southern Wisconsin Bird Alliance, and Birdability for a FREE Birdability Week event at Fish Camp County Park for a variety of birding-related experiences. Birdability Week is a time to uplift and amplify the experiences of birders with disabilities and other health concerns, fostering joy, community, and connection with nature. This special event is designed to make birding and the outdoors welcoming, inclusive, safe, and accessible for all.

Event Schedule:
There are many options to explore during this event. Activities with an (*) require registration. Registration will go live August 3. Sign up is appreciated for the other events for planning purposes, but not required.

 

9:00 - 10:30 a.m.

  • Stroll: the park has paved walking surfaces and a boardwalk bridge, both offering excellent opportunities for birdwatching.
  • Bird Photography*: start indoors to learn bird photography tips and tricks with photographer Arlene Koziol then head outside to practice what you learn. *Registration Required
  • Sit: two sit spots offer places to sit near the water to observe the birds or practice birding by ear.

10:45 a.m. -12:15 p.m.

  • Stroll: the park has paved walking surfaces and a boardwalk bridge, both offering excellent opportunities for birdwatching. 
  • Sit: two sit spots offer places to sit near the water to observe the birds or practice birding by ear.
  • Paddle*: practice birding by boat with a paddle up the Yahara River. We will have 10 canoes available - please do not bring your own boat. *Registration Required

There will be an all-terrain wheelchair on site that can be borrowed on a first come, first served basis or reserved by emailing heritagecenter@danecounty.gov and requesting it for one of the two timeblocks above.

Parking:
Parking is available at the park and in an overflow lot. Parking volunteers will direct you when to arrive. Accessible parking is available for those that need it. A shuttle will be running continuously between the overflow parking lot and the park.

Weather:
Any cancellations due to weather will be posted on this event page by 7:00 a.m the day of the event.
